January 6th, 2021 – Bullet Club Reunites in AEW
4 years ago today, AEW presented the first night of New Year’s Smash. The show featured the return of Jon Moxley, who tried to attack AEW World Champion Kenny Omega after Omega successfully defended the title against Rey Fenix. Moxley’s assault was thwarted by The Good Brothers, who jumped the barricade to help Omega. In a shocking twist, The Young Bucks joined forces with Omega and The Good Brothers, throwing up the iconic Bullet Club hand gesture and solidifying their alliance in AEW.

Elsewhere on the card, Snoop Dogg accompanied Cody Rhodes to the ring for his match against Matt Sydal. The music icon even hit a memorable ‘Doggy Splash’ on Serpentico, earning a huge reaction from the crowd.

AEW x NJPW Wrestle Dynasty Results – January 5th, 2025

Note: Morning Dirt Sheet doesn’t typically cover NJPW however given the crossover they did with AEW for Wrestle Dynasty we wanted to add the results here. Also as a side note it’s a bucket list item to one day get to the Tokyo Dome.

AEW and NJPW presented Wrestle Dynasty live from the Tokyo Dome, airing on NJPW World and TrillerTV. The event featured 12 matches, including Kenny Omega’s first match in over a year, Zack Sabre Jr. defending the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, and the crowning of the first International Women’s Cup winner.

Pre-Show:

  • Momo Watanabe won the International Women’s Cup by pinning Athena after hitting her with a bat and the Peach Sunrise. This marked Athena’s first loss in two years, setting up a potential feud with H.A.T.E.

  • Sons of Texas (Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara) retained the Ring of Honor Tag Titles, defeating House of Torture (SHO & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) with a Final Reckoning from Dustin and a 630 splash from Sammy.

Main Card:

  • Taiji Ishimori won the Eight-Man Lucha Gauntlet, securing victory by pinning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion El Desperado with a Gedo Clutch.

  • Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Katsuyori Shibata ended in a five-minute exhibition draw, featuring intense grappling exchanges.

  • Mercedes Moné defeated Mina Shirakawa to win the RevPro British Women’s Championship with a Moné Maker, adding a third title to her collection.

  • David Finlay beat Brody King via pinfall, using a powerbomb and Overkill after enduring a brutal match dominated by Brody’s size and strength.

  • Shota Umino defeated Claudio Castagnoli after surviving brutal offense and hitting the Death Rider, sending a message to his mentor, Jon Moxley.

  • Konosuke Takeshita retained the NEVER Openweight and AEW International Titles by pinning Tomohiro Ishii with his Raging Fire finisher after an intense, hard-hitting bout.

  • The Young Bucks won the vacant IWGP Tag Team Titles in a chaotic Triple Threat match, defeating LIJ (Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi) and United Empire (Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb) with a TK Driver.

  • Yota Tsuji retained the IWGP Global Championship, defeating Jack Perry despite Perry’s dirty tactics, sealing the win with his Gene Blaster spear.

  • Kenny Omega defeated Gabe Kidd in his return match, using Kamigoye and the One-Winged Angel after a brutal, chair-and-table-filled encounter that showcased Kidd as a future star.

  • Zack Sabre Jr. retained the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship by forcing Ricochet to verbally submit to The Inexorable March of Progress after a fast-paced, hard-fought main event. ZSJ praised Ricochet post-match and reaffirmed his loyalty to TMDK.
