January 8, 2006 – Edge Makes History with First-Ever MITB Cash-In
19 years ago today, WWE held New Year’s Revolution in Albany, New York, featuring a monumental moment in wrestling history. In the main event, John Cena successfully defended the WWE Championship in an Elimination Chamber match against Kurt Angle, Chris Masters, Carlito, Shawn Michaels, and Kane. However, Cena’s celebration was short-lived as Vince McMahon announced that Edge was cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase. In less than two minutes, Edge defeated Cena to become the new WWE Champion, marking the first-ever MITB cash-in and cementing Edge’s legacy as the "Ultimate Opportunist."
