January 15, 1989 - The First 30-Man Rumble Hits Pay-Per-View!

36 years ago today, WWE presented the second-ever Royal Rumble live from Houston, Texas. This marked the first Rumble to feature 30 participants and the first to air on pay-per-view. In a star-studded main event, Big John Studd emerged victorious in the titular 30-man Royal Rumble, overcoming legends like Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, and Mr. Perfect. Elsewhere on the card, a ‘Super Posedown’ contest between 'Ravishing' Rick Rude and The Ultimate Warrior ended with Rude attacking Warrior.
