Rey Mysterio’s Record-Breaking Royal Rumble Victory

19 years ago today, WWE held the Royal Rumble at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida. Rey Mysterio triumphed in the Royal Rumble match, setting a record at the time by lasting an incredible 62 minutes. Mysterio overcame Randy Orton as the final competitor to secure his WrestleMania main event spot.

The event also saw John Cena reclaim the WWE Championship from Edge, just weeks after losing it. Meanwhile, Kurt Angle retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Mark Henry in the main event. After the match, The Undertaker made his first WWE appearance of the year, dramatically confronting Angle to set the stage for their rivalry.

In addition, Gregory Helms emerged victorious in a high-octane Cruiserweight Invitational, defeating Kid Kash, Funaki, Jamie Noble, Nunzio, and Paul London to win the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

(This match may have been cursed
since none of these guys had what you would call a “Hall of Fame” career)

  • The Grayson Waller Effect with Oba Femi Ends in Chaos
NXT Champion Oba Femi joined Grayson Waller and Austin Theory for a heated segment that saw the Raw stars belittle Femi’s reign. Waller and Theory mocked Femi’s future on the main roster, suggesting he’d be forgotten in catering within months. Femi fired back, challenging one of them to step up at Vengeance Day. Before Waller could accept, NXT GM AVA interrupted, reminding Femi that he doesn’t make matches—she does. Moments later, Trick Williams stormed in to attack A-Town Down Under, but Femi laid him out with The Fall From Grace to end the segment.

She secured the win with The Ho’ Down before facing off with Stephanie Vaquer, her next challenger.

  • Tensions Rise Between Kelani Jordan & Karmen Petrovic
Backstage, Karmen Petrovic tried to thank Kelani Jordan for helping her last week, but Jordan made it clear she wasn’t being friendly—she just wanted revenge on Jaida Parker. Dominik Mysterio didn’t hold back while commenting on CM Punk’s recent tricep injury. "A 47-year-old man tore his tricep. Oh wow, gee, I wonder why? Man hasn't wrestled in 35 years, comes back for the first time, tears his tricep, gee wiz, I wonder why," said Dominik. His remarks have sparked online debate among fans.

Paul Heyman opened up about Sami Zayn’s unexpected addition to The Bloodline storyline, crediting Zayn’s unique talents. "Yeah, I’ll take full responsibility for Sami. He was doing whatever he was doing with Jackass, and I just admired the work... The way he made that work, I just saw something completely different than what we were doing," Heyman shared. Reigns also noted how Zayn elevated the storyline by creating new dynamics with his rivals.

AEW

Jon Moxley passionately described what the AEW World Championship represents to him. "I am the AEW World Championship. I am the living definition of that championship. You want to see it, it's right here [points to himself]. Take a look at it... It has to be cultivated and grown, forged in the white-hot fires of combat and struggle," Moxley explained, emphasizing the emotional and physical toll that defines the title.

AEW announced that MJF will appear in a major segment on this week’s Dynamite. While details are under wraps, fans are speculating that the AEW World Champion will address his upcoming title defense or continue his feud with Bryan Danielson ahead of their potential match at Revolution.

🎼 Bloodline Rules has been added to WWE 2k25 which will will allow up to six run-ins per match, three per side, and these run-ins can be performed like a finisher (But will Stone Cold be able to come out đŸ€” - also this is such a ridiculous match type to add to a video game!)
