The Fall of WOW: "Unleashed" PPV Doomed from the Start
Note: I typically like to do WWE or AEW history in this section but February 4th was not a very exciting day in eithers history, so here’s a story I found more interesting than what was going on in either WWE or AEW on this day.
23 years ago today, Women of Wrestling (WOW) presented their first—and only—pay-per-view event, Unleashed, live from Inglewood, California. Despite drawing an attendance of around 9,500 fans, the event was a commercial disaster, with only 6,000 homes purchasing the PPV—meaning more people were in the arena than watching from home.
The show was plagued by numerous technical difficulties, production glitches, and incredibly short matches. In fact, the first four bouts combined lasted under three minutes, and half of the night’s matches wrapped up in less than five. The sloppy production, poor match pacing, and lackluster quality led many to consider Unleashed one of the worst wrestling events in history.

Look at all these 5 star - 2 minute matches!
The fallout was swift. WOW announced a second PPV during the broadcast, but the promotion folded just a month later, ceasing all original programming. However, not all was lost in the ring: Caged Heat (Delta Lotta Pain and Loca) defeated Harley’s Angels (Charlie Davidson and EZ Rider) to become the WOW Tag Team Champions, while Terri Gold captured the WOW World Championship by defeating Danger.
While Unleashed marked the end of an era, WOW made surprising comebacks—first in 2012 and again in 2022—proving that even after historic missteps, wrestling promotions can find a way back to the spotlight.

"As soon as I won this championship, the next day, I'm calling out John Cena," Hendry stated. "The same way I believed I would be in the Royal Rumble, I believe that I will wrestle John Cena this year. There is no doubt. I had the opportunity to tell John Cena that. We had a one-on-one conversation." Hendry’s confidence adds an intriguing layer to WWE’s upcoming storylines.
Kevin Owens’ performance at the 2025 Royal Rumble has earned him significant backstage praise. Reports suggest that his in-ring work, dedication to storytelling, and ability to elevate his opponents have solidified his reputation as one of WWE’s most reliable and versatile performers.

Triple H shared insights on WWE’s upcoming show, EVOLVE, which will stream on Tubi opposite AEW Dynamite. "That will be a show that I’m excited about," he said. "In many ways for me, it seems like going back to the very beginning of NXT, where nobody knew who anybody was, and it was just a bunch of young kids trying to find their way to get in the business, and that’s what we’re going to go back to with that show." The project aims to spotlight emerging talent in a developmental setting.

AEW
Nic Nemeth provided insight into Jon Moxley’s evolving AEW character, hinting at darker layers emerging in recent weeks. "There is some madness slowly appearing in front of our face, and I really feel like last night's words from Moxley were like giving you this 'I have this beautiful plan. It's 100 pages... And I think he's slowly becoming deranged and paranoid. And it's really awesome and subtle. And it takes time, if we give it time," Nemeth explained. This character shift has intrigued fans as Moxley heads into his next title defense.
Despite years in the ring, Dustin Rhodes isn’t slowing down anytime soon. In a recent interview, Rhodes discussed his long-term plans to continue wrestling, emphasizing his passion for the business and desire to help mentor AEW’s rising stars. His resilience and commitment continue to inspire both fans and younger talent alike.

Fantastic Royal Rumble. Truly a great show. Congratulations to @MsCharlotteWWE and Jey @WWEUsos. Tremendous performances.
Though I was pulling for my guy @DomMysterio35. Now there is real star power.— Jesse Ventura (@GovJVentura)

💬 Thoughts on Morning Dirt Sheet?
Love it as much as Daniel Bryan’s Wrestlemania 30 run?

Got ideas on how we could make it better? We’d love to hear from you!
🤝 Got anyone who would enjoy Morning Dirt Sheet?
Got a tag partner who is looking to catch up on WWE and AEW stories more easily?
What about two partners in a Trios group that could use the help (we know you're not defending the belts on AEW anytime soon)?
Part of a stable and they all can use this (face or heel, we don't care)?
Refer them to Morning Dirt Sheet, and get some stickers!
