Sting's Revenge Turns Painful at Clash of the Champions X

34 years ago today, NWA Clash of the Champions X: Texas Shootout took place in Corpus Christi, Texas. The event featured The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal) losing by disqualification to the team of Dan Spivey and a young ‘Mean’ Mark Callous, who would later go on to become The Undertaker in WWE.

The main event was a 3-on-3 Steel Cage match with Buzz Sawyer, The Dragon Master, and The Great Muta facing The Four Horsemen—Arn Anderson, Ric Flair, and Ole Anderson. Sting was originally part of the Horsemen but had been kicked out of the faction and replaced by Ole.

After the Horsemen picked up the win, Sting climbed the cage to get his revenge on his former allies. During the post-match fight, Sting injured his knee, which would sideline him temporarily.

AEW Dynamite aired live from the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, on TBS and streamed on MAX, featuring explosive matches, heated rivalries, and major developments heading into Revolution.

• Rated FTR and Death Riders Brawl; Cope Challenges Moxley
  Jay White’s backstage interview was interrupted by an ambush from the Death Riders, sparking a chaotic brawl with Rated FTR evening the odds. Inside the ring, Cope challenged Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at Revolution, but Moxley refused. Jay White then proposed a Brisbane Brawl tag match at Grand Slam, which Mox seemingly accepted.

• Will Ospreay def. Mark Davis
  In a hard-hitting bout against his former friend, Ospreay overcame Davis' brutal offense to score the win with the Hidden Blade. Post-match, Kenny Omega returned to talk about his and Ospreay’s upcoming match against Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher at Grand Slam.

• The Gunn Club Returns, Challenges Hurt Syndicate
  AEW World Tag Team Champions The Hurt Syndicate, accompanied by MVP, issued an open challenge. The Gunn Club answered, setting up a title match for next week.

• Mercedes Moné Warns Harley Cameron
  Backstage, Harley Cameron mocked Mercedes Moné with a puppet, but Mercedes dismissed her, asserting herself as the greatest TBS Champion of all time.

• Adam Page Reacts to Texas Death Match Fallout
  A frustrated Adam Page refused to discuss Swerve Strickland and dismissed concerns over Christopher Daniels’ career-ending injury. An awkward interruption by Max Caster led to Page aggressively following him.

• Kyle Fletcher & Konosuke Takeshita def. The Hounds of Hell
  A fast-paced International All-Star Tag Match saw Fletcher and Takeshita defeat Brody King and Buddy Matthews after an assisted brainbuster. Okada’s music distracted Matthews, leading to the loss.

• Samoa Joe & HOOK Send a Message to Christian Cage
  Joe and HOOK attacked Kip Sabian and Nick Wayne, sending a warning to Christian Cage. Christian had been hiding but emerged after they left, scolding his allies.

• MJF & Dustin Rhodes Clash in Heated Confrontation
  MJF belittled Dustin Rhodes, leading to a heated exchange where Dustin declared himself "the last of his kind." After a brawl, MJF delivered a low blow, further escalating tensions.

• Toni Storm def. Queen Aminata
  Dressed as Mariah May, Toni Storm defeated Queen Aminata with the May Day. Afterward, she declared herself untouchable, while May hesitated to confront her.

• Chris Jericho Puts a Bounty on Bandido
  Jericho announced a $200,000 bounty on Bandido ahead of Collision, promising consequences similar to what Big Bill had done to Powerhouse Hobbs.

• Ricochet def. Swerve Strickland
  In a highly intense main event, Ricochet ambushed Swerve before the match, leading to a brutal contest. Ricochet secured the win with a low blow and Spirit Gun before walking off with Prince Nana’s Embassy robe.

Jey Uso opened up about the moment he discovered he’d be winning the 2025 Royal Rumble, saying, "I was humbled, man. I knew, as soon as they told me it was me, they told me like half-way during the day Saturday, man. 'Hey, we need the last four to come in here.' I'm [in the] last four, I see who's with me. I'm like [looks around]. Yeah, they let me know, man. Then, I automatically went straight to my brothers, 'Hey,' you know, then told them what it was, and I knew... I liked it, uce, because I knew not one person in that arena [would] think it's gonna be me. That's the swerve I like."
