Correction: Yesterday, in the “On This Day” section, I mistakenly wrote that TakeOver: Rival took place in 1989. Surprisingly, this event did not happen 25 years ago—it was actually 10 years ago, in 2015. I doubt anyone looked at a poster featuring Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Bayley and thought, "Wow, I can’t believe this PPV happened just a few weeks after Big John Studd won the Royal Rumble by eliminating Ted DiBiase," but just wanted to call this out for accuracy.

Bray Wyatt Captures His First WWE Championship

8 years ago today, Bray Wyatt won his first WWE Championship in the main event of Elimination Chamber 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. Competing against AJ Styles, Baron Corbin, Dean Ambrose, John Cena, and The Miz inside the brutal steel structure, Wyatt secured the biggest victory of his career by pinning both Styles and Cena to claim the gold.

The win marked a long-awaited moment for Wyatt, who had built a reputation as one of WWE’s most unique and captivating characters. His title reign would eventually lead to a high-profile feud with Randy Orton, culminating at WrestleMania 33.

Elsewhere on the card, Naomi defeated Alexa Bliss to capture the SmackDown Women’s Championship, marking her first title win in WWE. The emotional victory was a career-defining moment for Naomi, who would go on to defend the championship at WrestleMania 33 in her hometown of Orlando.

Would’ve loved to see what Windham could have done under WWE’s new creative direction. Heartbreaking how young he passed. If you haven’t seen it yet, the Bray Wyatt documentary on Peacock is a must-watch for any WWE or Bray Wyatt fan. Highly recommend!

WWE

WWE has confirmed that the March 11 episode of NXT will not be a regular show, but instead the return of their annual Roadblock special. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Roadblock has aired as a TV special.

Dave Meltzer weighed in on the future of several former AEW stars, saying, "Ricky Starks I would almost be certain [to see] in WWE, Black I am certain, and Miro — I would just say I expect but I cannot say I am certain." With WWE actively looking to bolster its roster ahead of WrestleMania 41, speculation continues to grow about these potential signings.

Gunther issued a warning to Jey Uso after WWE Raw, making it clear that the road to WrestleMania 41 will be anything but easy. "I promise one thing now," Gunther said. "Jey made the biggest mistake of his career. He should've thought about his family, about the reputation of his family. He should've thought about the disappointment that he's going to deliver to all his degenerate fans out there. And I promise you one thing Jey; from now on until WrestleMania will be hell. 10 weeks of hell."

Liv Morgan suffered a rough landing during her match against Damage CTRL on Raw, leading to concerns about a possible injury. However, Morgan was seen smiling after the match, indicating she may have avoided serious damage.

Logan Paul continues to push boundaries in WWE, telling Mick Foley after the Royal Rumble that he wants to take extreme risks like the Hardcore Legend. Paul’s growing involvement in WWE has drawn both praise and skepticism, but his willingness to put his body on the line suggests he’s committed to making a lasting impact.

AEW

Jackass star Bam Margera has started doing DDP Yoga, the same program that helped wrestlers like Jake Roberts and Scott Hall turn their lives around. All this time we thought Darby Allin was climbing Mt. Everest… but maybe those rumors were false and he’s actually helping Bam climb the mountain to his recovery.

(Morning Dirt Sheet are huge fans of John Morrison… always great to see him, even if it’s just doing some yoga with DDP!)

AEW Collision saw a major jump in viewership this past week, recording its second-highest audience since September.
