🗓️ On This Day - 1993

The Tragic Passing of Kerry Von Erich

32 years ago today, Kerry Von Erich tragically passed away at the age of 33. A member of the legendary Von Erich wrestling family, Kerry made his mark in World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW), his father’s promotion, where he won multiple titles and feuded with some of the industry’s biggest names, including Ric Flair, King Kong Bundy, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and The Fabulous Freebirds.

In the summer of 1990, Von Erich joined WWF, where he was introduced as The Texas Tornado. He quickly made an impact, defeating Mr. Perfect for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam 1990. His only WrestleMania appearance came a year later at WrestleMania VII, where he faced Dino Bravo in Los Angeles.

The Von Erich family was posthumously honored when they were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009 by Michael Hayes, the night before WrestleMania 25 in Houston, Texas.

If you haven’t seen The Iron Claw, it’s an incredible (though heartbreaking) movie that tells the story of the Von Erich family’s triumphs and tragedies—a must-watch for any wrestling fan.

❄️ Winter Madness 🏆

Welcome to Winter Madness, where we’re on a mission to crown the most popular WWE star across Morning Dirt Sheet! Every day, two legends step into the spotlight, but only one can advance.

Yesterday we had quite the upset as The 1-2-3 Kid (13) X-Pac took down (4) Mr. McMahon. Maybe it was the hot water Vince has been in over the last few months, or maybe I underestimated how popular X-Pac was across The Morning Dirt Sheet community but X-Pac is moving on to face his DX partner (5) Triple H in Round 2.

Today we have a fan favorite across multiple decades, (3) The Underaker taking on The World's Most Dangerous Man (14) Ken Shamrock!

WWE Raw aired live from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, on USA Network, featuring key Elimination Chamber qualifying matches, a heated confrontation between Gunther and Jey Uso, and an unsanctioned match made official for Elimination Chamber.

  • Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens Set for Unsanctioned Match at Elimination Chamber

  • AJ Styles def. Dominik Mysterio
Styles overcame interference from Carlito to hit the Styles Clash for the win. Post-match, Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker attempted to spear Styles but accidentally hit Mysterio instead, leading to a staredown between Styles and Breakker.

Kai secured the win with a GTK, setting up a rematch against Lyra Valkyria for the title next week on Raw.

  • Gunther Confronts Jey Uso
Gunther mocked the crowd and belittled Jey Uso’s chances at WrestleMania, leading to a wild brawl between the two. WWE security struggled to keep them apart as the segment ended with Uso leading the crowd in a “YEET” chant.

The Undertaker revealed that had he come from an amateur wrestling background, he would have considered stepping into the UFC Octagon during its early rise. "Honestly, this is what a lot of people don't know. UFC is coming up big at this point. They're growing. If I had an amateur wrestling background, there is a good chance I would have tested those waters," Undertaker said on Busted Open Radio.

WWE ring announcer Samantha Irvin became emotional while announcing Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship victory. "I actually started crying before the finish... Then, I think 36 years of payoff. It all just came crashing down. Every sad thing, every crazy thing. All the stuff in wrestling that you can’t talk about. Everything that you hold onto if you’re a fan, it just all came out in that moment. Cody winning, just the way they told that (story). Everything... In that moment, I was not there for work I was literally there just as me."

Honestly I absolutely loved how she called Cody winning, it added so much raw emotion to an already incredible match, and story line!

Rhea Ripley and Buddy Matthews have shared new photos from their honeymoon following AEW Grand Slam.

The full WWE 2K25 roster was officially revealed at IGN Fan Fest, showcasing both returning legends and new superstars. The game is set to feature enhanced gameplay mechanics, new match types, and deeper customization options for fans.

Seth Rollins has confirmed that early talks have begun regarding a potential WWE Executive or Creative role in the future. "...I think we’re in the early stages of conversations about what it might look like for me in the future in an executive or in a creative role, or whatever that may be. But again, that’s in its infancy, that’s like a ‘Hey maybe, what would you think down the road?’ Right now, I’m focused on what I’m doing in the ring and helping out there as best I can.”

Reports have surfaced suggesting Josh Alexander is close to signing with AEW, but Dave Meltzer weighed in, stating that while the move seems likely, no official deal has been confirmed. Fans continue to speculate whether Alexander will debut in AEW soon.

Buddy Matthews reportedly suffered an injury during AEW Grand Slam, though the severity remains unclear. AEW has yet to release an official statement, but he didn't let it get in the way of his honeymoon (see above).
