Rey Mysterio Loses His Mask at SuperBrawl IX

26 years ago today, WCW SuperBrawl IX took place at the Oakland Arena in Oakland, California, marking a controversial moment in wrestling history.
In the main event, Hollywood Hogan defended the WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Ric Flair, continuing their long-running rivalry. However, the night’s most talked-about moment came in a Hair vs. Mask Match, where The Outsiders (Scott Hall & Kevin Nash) defeated Konnan & Rey Mysterio Jr., forcing Mysterio to unmask for the first time in his career.
Rey Mysterio losing his mask remains one of the most controversial booking decisions in WCW history, as fans and Mysterio himself have since expressed disappointment over the unmasking, which was a major departure from lucha libre tradition.

This just feels so wrong…
Rey has opened up about this and on an episode of the Kurt Angle podcast in 2001 Rey stated:
"…When I lost the mask, the next night I faced Kevin Nash and that's when the 'Giant Killer' came up. Sometimes I think to myself, 'If I hadn't lost the mask, would I have gotten the push that I got against these bigger guys?' I don't know, but because it happened, there was a positive side to it and that's when I started working with bigger guys, which eventually opened up the doors for me in WWE."

WWE
WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg has revealed he’s preparing for a return to the ring later this year. "I have a match sometime this summer," Goldberg admitted. "I don't know exactly when it is, but I know it's coming up, and I know at 58 years old I have to be in my underwear in front of everybody, and I hold a very high standard of myself. I need to get to work yesterday." While details of the match remain unknown, this could be Goldberg’s final in-ring appearance.
________
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is rumored to land a major role in an upcoming Martin Scorsese film alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt. The film, written by Nick Bilton, is described as a blend of Goodfellas and The Departed, focusing on the rise of a powerful mob boss and his crime empire in 1960s and 1970s Hawaii.
________
WWE is reportedly exploring a new format for its Hall of Fame ceremony. “After speaking with sources, we’ve heard varying speculation about when and where the 2025 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will take place. Some within the company strongly dislike the recent format of the ceremony following SmackDown. We’re told WWE is considering a change, with no mention of the time or place in any WM promotional material so far.” If true, this could bring a fresh approach to one of WWE’s most prestigious annual traditions.

Former WWE commentator Jonathan Coachman made a surprising revelation about Shane McMahon’s reported interest in AEW. "I have it on good authority that Shane McMahon asked for the world," Coachman said on The Coach & Bro Show. "He asked for equity in the company and he asked to come in and run the entire show. It was probably the first time that I said to myself I actually agree with Tony Khan ghosting him."
