🗓️ On This Day - 2010
WWE NXT Debuts with a Very Different Format
15 years ago today, WWE NXT aired its first episode from The Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. However, this was not the NXT that fans recognize today. Instead of a developmental brand, NXT was introduced as a competition-style show where eight "rookies" were paired with established WWE "pros", competing in matches and challenges to avoid elimination and win a WWE contract.
The debut episode featured the in-ring debut of Daniel Bryan, who was paired with The Miz as his pro. In the main event, Bryan faced WWE Champion Chris Jericho (who served as Wade Barrett’s pro). Despite putting up a strong fight, Bryan fell to Jericho, who made him submit to the Walls of Jericho.
This version of NXT lasted five seasons before being rebranded in 2012 as the developmental system that would go on to become WWE’s third major brand. The original NXT format remains a unique experiment in WWE history, remembered for launching stars like Bryan, Barrett, and Ryback, but also for its often bizarre challenges and reality-show elements.

Julia Hart def. Queen Aminata. Hart forced Aminata to tap out to a flying octopus hold after a hard-hitting encounter.
Gabe Kidd def. The Butcher. Kidd dominated The Butcher, finishing him off with a piledriver before continuing his assault after the bell. Don Callis appeared pleased with Kidd’s aggressive performance.
The Death Riders def. Daniel Garcia, Cool Hand Ang & Daddy Magic to retain the AEW World Trios Championship. Pac, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta controlled much of the match, but Garcia mounted a fiery comeback. In the end, Pac locked Cool Hand Ang in the Brutalizer for the submission victory. After the match, the Undisputed Kingdom ran down to even the odds, leading to a chaotic brawl. Cope arrived with a steel chair and delivered a con-chair-to to Pac while Moxley looked on from the ramp.
Brody King def. Max Caster. King steamrolled Caster, finishing him off with a cannonball in the corner. Caster is now 0-3 in his open challenge series.
The Murder Machines def. Local Competitors. Brian Cage and Lance Archer made quick work of their opponents, sending a message to The Hurt Syndicate. MVP appeared with Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin, stating that if the Murder Machines wanted a title shot, they needed to prove themselves by beating a real team next week.
Rush Suspended Indefinitely. Footage aired from two weeks ago showing Rush assaulting an AEW official. Tony Schiavone announced that Rush had been indefinitely suspended for his actions.
Chris Jericho def. Bandido to retain the ROH World Championship. In a highly competitive match, Bandido nearly had Jericho beat with the 21 Plex, but Jericho countered, rolling through and securing the win. Jericho avoided being pinned by the same move that defeated him in Australia, cementing his reign as champion.

________
During a recent press conference, The Rock addressed speculation about his involvement with Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. "With ‘The Final Boss’ and Cody Rhodes, it’s not about the WWE Title," said The Rock. "It’s not about having a match. It’s not about punching or kicking or bleeding or any of that, that is so part of our world. It never has to culminate to a match." The Rock may be forgetting that WWE is in fact, a wrestling company, and it’s nice when story lines end… in matches!
________

AEW

AEW Revolution will feature a highly anticipated Steel Cage Match between Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher. With tensions between the former United Empire members boiling over, this grudge match is set to be one of the most must-see bouts on the pay-per-view.

(Not WWE or AEW but insane, and worth a quick watch)
