WWE Network Launches… for $9.99!

11 years ago today, WWE revolutionized the wrestling media landscape with the launch of the WWE Network. Initially available only in the United States, the on-demand streaming service introduced an unprecedented level of accessibility to WWE’s vast library, all for the now-iconic montly price of…

Every single promo, regardless of storyline, made sure to mention this price!

The WWE Network featured the most extensive wrestling archive ever assembled, including:

  • Every WWE, WCW, and ECW pay-per-view

  • Full episodes of Raw, SmackDown, and Nitro

  • Thousands of classic and exclusive wrestling shows

Beyond its legendary back catalog, the WWE Network became the home for every live WWE pay-per-view, offering fans an affordable alternative to traditional PPV pricing (goodbye $60 per PPV, every month). The platform also produced original, exclusive content such as WWE 24, The Monday Night War (amazing documentary), Legends House, and more.

The success of the WWE Network paved the way for how wrestling is consumed today, influencing WWE’s eventual move to Peacock in the U.S. and setting the standard for streaming services in sports entertainment.

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry sees a huge future for Jacob Fatu and believes a major rivalry with Cody Rhodes is inevitable. "I would love to get this current version of Cody and just stretch him all over America and around the world. He needs to be put in jeopardy, and there’s some guys that can do it. I think Jacob Fatu is one of those. I think Jacob is gonna have an unbelievable saga with him. [Niaz names Bron Breakker]. Bron Breakker, too. He’s another one that’s very athletic, very good and explosive. Oba Femi is somebody I like a lot, I see him doing really big things..." Henry said.

Veteran wrestler Matt Hardy opened up about how he had to change his in-ring style as he aged. "Once I got to 2010, I was burning out physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually — all across the board," Hardy said. "I needed to take care of myself, and I also had to learn how to accept that, as you get older, you can ... still wrestle, but you can't necessarily wrestle like you did when you were 25 years old." Hardy’s comments reflect the ongoing evolution of wrestling styles for longtime performers.

A new analysis discusses why wrestling storytelling is just as—if not more—important than frequent title matches. The article breaks down how stars like Bron Breakker and Shinsuke Nakamura benefit from deep, compelling narratives instead of being inserted into constant title feuds.

________

Michael Cole recently addressed his working relationship with Corey Graves and the controversy surrounding him. "I love Corey, love him to death. I still don't understand all the dynamics of it. I know that he said something out on social media that was pretty critical of the company... I love Corey to death. He is an unbelievable commentator. Beside [Pat] McAfee, he is probably the best partner I've ever had."

AEW’s Wheeler Yuta gave fans an amusing behind-the-scenes look at Orange Cassidy’s locker room routine. "There are a lot of people in the locker room that definitely step up. Some of them are like guys that lead by example like Orange Cassidy is a good example of somebody who just leads by demonstrating -- alright, he shows up to work every week. He does what he’s asked. He brings candy for the boys, that’s fun," said Yuta.

________

AEW veteran Dustin Rhodes explained why he prefers unscripted promos in wrestling. "I like to just put it out there, and you're live; I don't like to script my stuff, just like, pour stuff from the heart, you know?" Rhodes said. "It's very important, I think, and that's the reason why I do that—because it's more heartfelt and you can make people feel something. And I think like, that's the object of what we do..."
