Mae Young Gives Birth to a Hand on Monday Night Raw
25 years ago today, WWE Monday Night Raw delivered one of the most bizarre and infamous segments in wrestling history—Mae Young "giving birth" to a hand.
The storyline began with Mae Young and Mark Henry entering an onscreen relationship, which eventually led to Young’s pregnancy. However, things took a chaotic turn after Young endured a powerbomb from the Dudley Boyz and a splash from Viscera. As she was wheeled backstage during Crash Holly vs. Mark Henry, she suddenly went into labor.
With Gerald Brisco, Pat Patterson, The Fabulous Moolah, and Mark Henry by her side, the moment became even more surreal when Young demanded a cigar before giving birth—something Brisco and Patterson actually provided. Then, in a moment that left the audience stunned, all that emerged was a bloody hand.
Even years later, Mark Henry remains baffled by the storyline, recounting a conversation with Vince McMahon on Chris Van Vliet’s podcast: "I still pick on Vince every time I see him. ‘Are you ever going to tell me what the deal was with the hand?’ And he just starts laughing, ‘It’s a hand!’”

Though widely seen as one of the strangest WWE moments ever, the storyline somehow lived on—at Raw 1000, a man dressed as a giant hand appeared, cementing the moment’s place in wrestling lore.
