Sunday, April 27, 2025

Good morning. Today we have a look back at “The Greatest Royal Rumble” ever (heavy sarcastic quotes on this), and results from AEW Collision Playoff Palooza (what a name) last night. Also inside: Aleister Black shares Bray Wyatt’s lasting advice, Bret Hart names his three greatest matches, and Bryan Danielson hints he may finally hang up his boots. Plus, Jade Cargill wins over the Reddit crowd, Dave Meltzer torches Cena vs. Cody, and much more. Let’s dig in!

🗓️ On This Day - 2018

Braun Strowman Wins the Greatest Royal Rumble!

7 years ago today, WWE held The Greatest Royal Rumble at King Abdullah International Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia — the first event under its long-term partnership with The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The main event featured a chaotic 50-man Royal Rumble match, with Braun Strowman emerging victorious after last eliminating Big Cass. The match included a strange mix of entrants, from NXT wrestlers like Tucker Knight and Babatunde to a sumo wrestler, Hiroki Sumi, and legends like The Great Khali and Chris Jericho.

The stacked undercard saw John Cena defeat Triple H, Cedric Alexander retain the Cruiserweight Title against Kalisto, and Bray Wyatt & Matt Hardy win the Raw Tag Team Titles. Jeff Hardy, The Bludgeon Brothers, Seth Rollins, and AJ Styles all retained their respective championships, while The Undertaker beat Rusev in a Casket Match. In the night's other main event, Brock Lesnar controversially defeated Roman Reigns inside a steel cage to retain the Universal Championship.

I still can’t believe the actual Royal Rumble will be in Saudi Arabia next year!

AEW Collision Playoff Palooza Results - April 26th, 2025

AEW Collision aired from Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, kicking off late after the NBA playoffs with a packed Playoff Palooza lineup.

Swerve Strickland def. Blake Christian. In an impromptu opener, Swerve wrestled in street clothes after being ambushed by the Young Bucks and overcame interference from Lee Johnson to win with the JML Driver. After the match, Swerve was attacked again until Kenny Omega ran in for the save, delivering snap dragon suplexes and sharing a fist-pound with Swerve. Meanwhile, Samoa Joe made it clear backstage that Jon Moxley’s chaos won’t stop Joe from coming for the AEW World Championship.

Toni Storm def. Queen Aminata – AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator. Aminata brought the fight after landing a swinging neckbreaker, but Toni Storm rallied with a German suplex, a running hip attack, and finished her off with the Storm Zero. Earlier in the night, Jeff Jarrett’s faction revealed that Jay Lethal has taken charge from Sonjay Dutt, looking to reset their fortunes.

Hologram def. Max Caster – Best Wrestler Alive Open Challenge. In another chapter of the Best Wrestler Alive open challenge series, Hologram easily outmaneuvered Max Caster, who couldn’t land a clean shot. Hologram secured the win with the spinning Portal Bomb.

Lio Rush & Action Andretti def. Top Flight – Tornado Tag Match. In a wild brawl using kendo sticks, trashcans, chairs, and Mardi Gras beads, Rush and Andretti, known as CRU, overcame Top Flight. After knocking Dante Martin off the turnbuckles, they hit a loaded punch and a double splash sequence to pin Darius Martin.

Anna Jay def. Taylor Gainey. Anna Jay steamrolled her opponent, winning quickly with a Gory Bomb. Post-match, Penelope Ford entered the ring for a confrontation, leading to a cheap shot attack before Megan Bayne arrived and flattened Jay with an F5.

Bandido def. Dralistico – ROH World Championship. In a hard-hitting, high-flying affair, Bandido retained his ROH World Championship. After absorbing a springboard Codebreaker, Bandido turned the tide by launching Dralistico into the turnbuckles and hitting the 21 Plex for the victory. Elsewhere backstage, Big Bill and Bryan Keith demanded stiffer competition, calling out the Gates of Agony for a future showdown.

Rush def. AR Fox. AR Fox showed flashes of brilliance with a flying crossbody and a swanton bomb, but Rush’s relentless aggression won out. A devastating Bull’s Horns dropkick sealed the victory for El Toro Blanco. Meanwhile, Roppongi Vice vented their frustrations backstage about being overlooked after twenty years of wrestling, yelling at the Outrunners for making noise nearby.

FTR def. Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong. In the Playoff Palooza main event, FTR targeted Roderick Strong’s injured leg early, isolating Kyle O’Reilly for much of the match. Despite a spirited comeback, Strong was finished off with a spike piledriver and the Shatter Machine, giving FTR the win. After the match, Adam Cole checked on his fallen Undisputed Kingdom teammates, only for Stokely Hathaway to grab his leg as FTR continued the beatdown. Daniel Garcia stormed in wielding a crowbar, threatening that FTR will pay for their actions.
