Let’s dig in!

🗓️ On This Day - 1997

Bret vs. Austin Steals the Show at WrestleMania XIII

27 years ago today, WrestleMania XIII emanated from the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago and delivered one of the most iconic matches in wrestling history: Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin in a Submission Match. Special guest referee Ken Shamrock stopped the bout after Austin passed out in the Sharpshooter, cementing a rare double turn as Hart shifted heel and Austin became a defiant antihero. The match earned a five-star rating from Dave Meltzer and helped usher in WWF’s Attitude Era.

Elsewhere on the card, The Undertaker defeated Sid in the main event to begin his second WWF Championship reign. A young Rocky Maivia retained the Intercontinental Title over The Sultan, aided by his father Rocky Johnson, in a match that teased the future rivalry of The Rock and Rikishi. Triple H (then Hunter Hearst Helmsley) beat Goldust, but the moment that stood out was Chyna rag-dolling Marlena at ringside. Mankind and Vader battled Owen Hart and The British Bulldog to a double count-out in the WWF Tag Team Title match after Mankind refused to release the Mandible Claw.

AEW Collision: Slam Dunk Results - March 22nd, 2025

AEW Collision: Slam Dunk Saturday aired from Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Omaha, Nebraska, with a special late-night start due to NCAA coverage. The show featured a TNT Championship main event, the continuation of Hook’s open challenge series, and a physical rubber match between Julia Hart and Queen Aminata. The second half of AEW Collision: Slam Dunk will air tonight 11pm EST.

Daniel Garcia vs. Adam Cole ends in a time-limit draw. In a TNT Championship rematch with everyone banned from ringside, Garcia and Cole engaged in a technical, hard-hitting match. Cole focused on Garcia’s injured knee, while Garcia struggled to execute offense due to the damage. As Cole lined up his running knee finisher, time expired before he could connect, resulting in a 20-minute draw.

Hook submits Max Caster in Best Wrestler Alive open challenge. After Max Caster bragged about driving Anthony Bowens out of AEW, Hook responded to the challenge. Caster tried to get the upper hand with a sneak attack, but Hook quickly took control and forced him to tap out to Redrum.

Julia Hart defeats Queen Aminata. In a competitive rubber match, Hart adjusted her game plan and avoided Aminata’s signature running kick, countering with a stacking roll-up to score the win.

Konosuke Takeshita & Murder Machines defeat Will Hobbs, Mark Briscoe & Rocky Romero. The Callis Family team absorbed a flurry of offense before taking control. Lance Archer dropped Romero with a chokeslam powerbomb combo alongside the Murder Machines, and Takeshita sealed the win with a Raging Fire driver.

WWE News, Rumors & Updates

Rob Van Dam discussed the pivotal role Paul Heyman played in his development during the early ECW years. "Okay, so if I hadn’t met Paul Heyman, I would have jumped probably right up to WWE or WCW... I wouldn’t have developed the way that I did. I wouldn’t have probably been as comfortable or fit in... Before ’96, I was hardcore and doing things I hadn’t seen done in the ring."

Mark Henry confirmed that he has signed a new WWE Legends contract, ensuring his continued presence with the company in a promotional and legacy capacity. The deal celebrates his Hall of Fame career and long-standing ties to WWE.

Triple H made a major announcement this week, officially setting up a triple threat match for WrestleMania 41 between CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns.

Marty Jannetty expressed his interest in having one final match with Shawn Michaels. "I would love to get in and have one final match with Shawn," he said. "It might [draw a rating]... because with each other, we can still go pretty good... Two senior citizens in there. I don't know how many people would see that."

A new teaser video aired during SmackDown, strongly hinting at the imminent debut of Rey Fenix. With his AEW departure now confirmed, Fenix is expected to land on WWE’s blue brand soon, possibly joining his brother Penta on Raw as WWE looks to bolster its lucha presence.

AEW News and Rumors & Updates

According to Fightful Select, AEW has floated the idea of unifying the Continental Championship and International Title, particularly around Kazuchika Okada’s current run. While nothing is confirmed, a unification match could serve as a major attraction in upcoming pay-per-views.

In a candid statement, Tony Khan offered mixed praise for Ricochet. "One of the least-liked men in our locker room... very hard to work with, really weird guy and that's Ricochet... He is in really top fighting condition and I think Ricochet is a great wrestler; I don't think he's a great guy."

Bryan Danielson revealed his in-ring future is uncertain due to ongoing neck issues. “...The odds of me wrestling again ever are probably 50-50 at this point. My desire is to not get neck surgery... If I could live comfortably without neck surgery but not wrestle again, I think I’d be okay with that trade-off.” His comments raise serious questions about whether fans have seen the last of Danielson in the ring.
