Cena Falls to Darkness at Extreme Rules

11 years ago today, WWE Extreme Rules 2014 emanated from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In one of the night’s most memorable moments, Bray Wyatt defeated John Cena in a steel cage match after a haunting appearance by a demonic child singing “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” helped seal Cena’s fate.

Elsewhere on the card, Daniel Bryan retained the WWE World Heavyweight Championship over Kane in a wild main event, The Shield toppled Evolution in a six-man war, and Bad News Barrett captured the Intercontinental Championship from Big E.

AEW Collision aired live from Atlantic City, New Jersey, delivering high-impact matches and heavy fallout as AEW barrels toward Double or Nothing. Toni Storm debuted a new submission to retain her title, Jon Moxley vowed destruction inside a steel cage, and FTR outmaneuvered Paragon in a grueling Two-Out-Of-Three Falls main event.

Toni Storm def. Lady Frost. Frost hit a cannonball off the apron and a moonsault off the LED board, but Storm weathered the storm and finished strong. After a release German suplex and hip attack, she debuted the TCM Chicken Wing submission to score the tapout. Storm followed with a theatrical promo from the boardwalk balcony, declaring she’s “here, queer, and timeless.”

Jon Moxley addressed Samoa Joe. Moxley said Joe’s recent destruction of allies like Shibata has set the tone, but unlike them, he’s not afraid. He confirmed their steel cage match for May 14 and warned that his affairs are in order for the war ahead.

Sammy Guevara def. AR Fox, Rush, and Kevin Knight in a $100K Four-Way. This fast-paced spotfest saw dives, suplexes, and chaos spill into the crowd as Rush and Knight fought to the back. Fox nearly had it with a Spanish Fly and 450 splash, but Sammy survived and won with the GTH.

Megan Bayne def. Harley Cameron. Cameron showed growth, hitting a satellite DDT and stunning knee, but Bayne overpowered her with Fate’s Descent to secure the win. Post-match, Bayne and Penelope Ford beat Cameron down until Anna Jay made the save with a 2×4.

Brody King vs. Josh Alexander ended in a time limit draw. The two heavy-hitters traded bombs from the floor to the top rope, with Brody nearly sealing it with a Ganso Bomb. As time expired, Lance Archer joined the chaos before Brody dove on everyone, and Alexander and Archer double-teamed him to close the segment.

Daniel Garcia def. Max Caster. Garcia accepted Caster’s open challenge and won quickly with a piledriver. Post-match, Garcia warned FTR that he wants answers and challenged them for next week.

Gates of Agony def. Local competitors. Kaun and Toa squashed their opponents with ease, finishing with Open the Gate. Afterward, they brawled in the parking lot with Big Bill and Bryan Keith until security separated them.

FTR def. Paragon in a Two-Out-Of-Three Falls match. Paragon struck first with Roddy forcing Dax to tap. FTR evened it after the Shatter Machine to Roddy. In the chaotic final fall, Paragon nearly won again, but Stokely’s ringside awareness and underhanded tactics helped FTR hit another Shatter Machine for the victory. Garcia appeared post-match with a crowbar, demanding a match next week.
