The Rock Reclaims His WrestleMania Title Shot with Help from Vince McMahon

25 years ago today, WWF Raw took place in East Rutherford, New Jersey, featuring a dramatic main event where The Rock defeated The Big Show to reclaim his WWF Championship match at WrestleMania. With his career on the line, Rock seemed doomed—until the shocking return of Vince McMahon, who had been absent from television for three months.

Shane McMahon, who was refereeing the match, watched in disbelief as Vince appeared on the TitanTron. As Triple H and Stephanie McMahon scrambled to find him backstage, Vince made his way to the ring, delivering a massive punch to Triple H before heading toward the action. The crowd erupted as Vince entered the arena with a furious look, knocking out Shane with a punch and a steel chair shot. Vince then put on Shane’s referee shirt, counted the pinfall after Rock’s Rock Bottom, and secured Rock’s path to WrestleMania.

Elsewhere on the show, Dean Malenko defeated Essa Rios to win the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship, and in an infamous moment, Bubba Ray Dudley powerbombed Mae Young off the entrance ramp through a table, creating one of Raw’s most jaw-dropping moments.

What an insane episode of Raw!

WWE News, Rumors & Updates

🎤 John Mulaney Says ‘Everybody’s Live’ Airs Wednesdays on Netflix Partly Due to WWE’s Schedule. John Mulaney revealed how WWE’s TV schedule influenced the airing of his new Netflix show. Mulaney joked, “…there is Friday night. I go, ‘Let's do Friday night.’ They go, ‘We have wrestling on Friday night.’ I go, ‘Oh, okay.’ ‘We have to devote our live time to wrestling.’ That's fair... I’m driving and I see a billboard for Monday Night Raw. ‘Wait, wrestling is on Monday.’ I call Netflix, ‘What's the deal? You said wrestling was on Friday.’ ‘That's international wrestling.’ ‘Oh, I'm so sorry.’ Wouldn't want to step on the beloved hit international wrestling. They said, ‘What about Wednesday?’ At this point, I'm so tired of the conversation I said that’s fine with me.”

Steve Austin Reflects on WrestleMania 38, Says He Wishes He Took More Time. Steve Austin shared his thoughts on his WrestleMania 38 match, revealing he wished he slowed down and soaked in the moment more. “When I went out there, I think I couldn't hear the crowd as much as I wanted to. When I watched it back, the crowd was into it. It was very, very loud, yes, but I wish I would have taken more time, savored more moments, and worked the people a little bit more than I did. I think I was in a space of not knowing what I had and trying to be a little too frantic. I could have slowed down drastically and made that better. I wish that I would have. I haven't told too many people that, but I told you.”

📺 WWE and ESPN Announce ‘Stephanie’s Place’ Series, Set to Premiere March 26. AEW News and Rumors & Updates

🌟 Will Ospreay Wants to Main Event AEW All In. Will Ospreay spoke about his aspirations in AEW, making it clear that he wants to be trusted with the company’s biggest matches. “Ever since I’ve walked in here, I’ve come in with a great attitude, my whole mission is to build a team. I feel like whatever was going on in AEW before I got there, I’ve helped out trying to get everyone on the same page. The only thing I can say is, I think the audience trusts me and I won’t break that trust.”

📣 Eric Bischoff Says It’s ‘Unhealthy’ to Compare AEW to WWE. Eric Bischoff dismissed comparisons between WWE and AEW, stating that they exist in separate worlds. “I think it's unhealthy to compare AEW to anybody else. AEW is doing AEW things. WWE is doing WWE things, and they're doing their respective things in their respective universes. They're not the same universe; why would you compare them? Why would you compare a T-bone steak to — oh, I don't know — six ounces of yogurt?”

💡 Swerve Strickland Credits Dustin Rhodes for His Match Success. Swerve Strickland acknowledged Dustin Rhodes’ influence in shaping many of his top performances. “Dustin, in general, he’s been the guy behind a lot of my great matches. He doesn’t tell me what to do, but he suggests things and where they should go. And he always puts a perspective on it where I’m like, ‘Oh, now you got me really thinking.’ And then I’m like, ‘How would you do it?’ And he’s like, ‘Well, I would go this way with it,’ but he never tells me what to do.”
