🌺 Happy Mothers Day 🌸
Good morning. Today we have a look back at In Your House: A Cold Day in Hell when Stone Cold faced The Undertaker, and results from WWE Backlash where the seeds of Cena's face turn seem to have been planted. Plus, Dominik Mysterio holds onto his title thanks to El Grande Americano, Mercedes Moné drops NJPW gold, Reddit debates Cena’s heel run, and Adam Jones—lead guitarist from one of my absolute favorite bands, TOOL—dressed as Penta in 2016 (so awesome), and much more. Let’s dig in!
🗓️ On This Day in WWE - 1997
Austin, Undertaker, and the Hart Foundation Collide in Chaos

28 years ago today, WWE presented In Your House: A Cold Day in Hell live from the Richmond Coliseum in Virginia. The main event saw The Undertaker defend the WWF Championship against “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in a wild, interference-laced brawl. The Hart Foundation made their presence felt late in the match, with Brian Pillman prematurely ringing the bell just as Austin seemed to have victory in hand. After the actual finish saw Undertaker pin Austin, the entire Hart Foundation stormed the ring, attacking both men. In a memorable post-match scene, Austin knocked Bret Hart out of his wheelchair and used his crutch to chase off the faction.
Elsewhere on the card, Mankind handed a young Rocky Maivia a key early loss, Hunter Hearst Helmsley (with Chyna) topped Flash Funk, and Ken Shamrock defeated Vader in a brutal No Holds Barred match. The Nation of Domination overcame Ahmed Johnson in a gauntlet bout, and Legion of Doom defeated Owen Hart and the British Bulldog by DQ in a WWF Tag Title match.
WWE Backlash Results - May 10th, 2025

WWE Backlash aired live from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri, featuring a stacked five-match card headlined by the final chapter of John Cena vs. Randy Orton. Jacob Fatu’s title reign survived a chaotic Fatal 4-Way with help from a surprise debut, Lyra Valkyria retained in a gritty fight with Becky Lynch, and Cena closed the show with one eye on legacy and the other on survival.

Jacob Fatu def. LA Knight, Damian Priest & Drew McIntyre + Jeff Cobb debuts. The U.S. Champion survived a brutal four-way match with chaos inside and outside the ring. Drew and Priest reignited their feud while LA Knight looked poised to steal the win—until Solo Sikoa and a debuting Jeff Cobb interfered, allowing a confused but opportunistic Fatu to pin Knight and retain his title.
Lyra Valkyria def. Becky Lynch. The Women’s Intercontinental Champion retained after a hard-hitting and emotionally charged battle. Lynch used heel tactics throughout, including exposing a turnbuckle and going for a chair, but Valkyria outlasted the punishment and countered a roll-up to get the pin. Post-match, Lynch snapped and had to be physically removed by Adam Pearce and officials.
Dominik Mysterio def. Penta. Dom retained the Intercontinental Championship with heavy help from Judgment Day and a surprise assist from El Grande Americano. Despite Penta neutralizing most interference, a loaded mask headbutt set up the frog splash finish. The faction celebrated post-match with no signs of tension.
Dominik Mysterio is really like that 🔥 #WWEBacklash

Gunther def. Pat McAfee. McAfee showed surprising resilience and even got help from Michael Cole at ringside, but ultimately fell to Gunther’s relentless assault. After surviving a series of stiff chops and suplexes, McAfee passed out in a Boston Crab. Gunther tipped his cap to the fallen announcer before leaving the ring.
John Cena def. Randy Orton. In a dramatic, interference-filled main event, Cena retained the Undisputed WWE Championship. Both men countered finishers and kicked out of signature moves. Ref bumps, table spots, and a surprise R-Truth appearance added to the chaos. After taking multiple RKOs, Cena blasted Orton with the title belt and finally got the pin. Post-match, Cena gloated on the mic but appeared briefly emotional as fans chanted “Thank you Cena” before he exited with the belt.
Bro John Cena is second guessing his decision to turn heel.
This is why I love professional wrestling.
This is why I’m a WWE Lifer.
This is cinema.

Anderson, who secured the win, had been longing for the WWE departure due to a lack of enjoyment. “What we signed up for wasn’t what came to be...I’m glad it happened. I wanted it to happen. I don’t have anything to say about it besides the fact that the last two and a half years happened, I’m gone from it, it’s barely in my thought process.” Also, Blair Davenport (pre-WWE name Bea Priestley) made an unexpected appearance, issuing an open challenge after her 90-day non-compete clause expired.
