Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025

Good morning. Today we have a look back at WreslteMania 2000, WWE NXT results, and a preview of the Go-Home Dynasty show for AEW Dynamite. We also look at Mick Foley in a car accident, Triple H on Netflix’s influence in the creative storytelling, and much more. Lets dig in!

🗓️ On This Day - 2000

WrestleMania 2000 Crowns the McMahon-Helmsley Era

25 years ago today, WrestleMania 2000 took place at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California, drawing 19,776 fans for a chaotic and gimmick-heavy show that featured only one singles match—and that was a Cat Fight. The main event saw Triple H retain the WWF Championship in a fatal four-way elimination match against The Rock, Mick Foley, and The Big Show, with each wrestler accompanied by a member of the McMahon family. Vince McMahon shockingly turned on The Rock, helping Triple H secure the win and marking the first time a heel left WrestleMania as WWF Champion.

Elsewhere on the card, Edge and Christian won their first WWF Tag Team Championship in a high-flying triple-threat ladder match against The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy Boyz—launching all three teams into legendary status. A two-fall triple threat between Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, and Kurt Angle saw Angle lose both the Intercontinental and European Titles without being pinned. Hardcore Holly controversially walked away with the Hardcore Championship after a 15-minute battle royal filled with wild weapon shots and disputed pinfalls. Despite its overbooked nature, WrestleMania 2000 remains a snapshot of the Attitude Era in full swing—with McMahon drama, chaotic stips, and a star-studded card. WWE Vault recently dropped this awesome behind-the-scenes footage from WrestleMania 2000.

This WrestleMania also gave us a staple of my childhood!

WWE News, Rumors & Updates

WWE's Pat McAfee is facing potential legal action over remarks made on 'The Pat McAfee Show'. According to a report by The Athletic, McAfee discussed a rumor involving 18-year-old Ole Miss freshman Mary Kate Cornett, leading to considerable harassment against Cornett and her family. "You're ruining my life by talking about it on your show for nothing but attention," Cornett said. She's now pursuing legal action against McAfee and ESPN, who have yet to respond.

🚑 Mick Foley Recovers Post-Car Crash: 'Still Walking Around'

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley recently survived a car accident, leaving him hospitalized but in stable condition. Despite a demolished car and a minor concussion, Foley reassured fans that he's coping well. "I have no idea how I am still walking around after this accident...I’m in the hospital now, and I’m sore from my knees to my neck," shared the 59-year-old wrestling legend.

WWE has firmly established its creative control over Netflix shows, according to a recent statement by Triple H. The wrestling giant's move to Netflix in 2025 began a new era, with WWE insisting on maintaining control over its content. Despite the $5 billion deal with Netflix, Triple H clarified that the streaming platform only governs the shows' duration and airtime. "We create the superstars, we create the storylines. We do all of that and the world watches...They distribute our product," says Triple H.

Renowned wrestler Bret Hart recently voiced his opinion on the state of modern wrestling on The Ariel Helwani Show. "I find the wrestlers are more actors pretending to be wrestlers today than actual wrestlers," Hart said, expressing a longing for the 'ruggedness' of characters from his era. He also praised wrestlers like Roman Reigns for trying to sustain the credibility of wrestling. However, Hart was particularly critical of AEW, stating that the wrestlers there are more focused on acting than wrestling.

In a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, wrestling legend Bret Hart addressed comments made by fellow icon Hulk Hogan. While the two didn't face off in WWE, their partnership and rivalry in WCW left an impact. Hogan has previously hinted that Hart blames him for sabotaging his career. Responding to Hogan's claim that Hart believes he's the "greatest wrestler of all time", Hart said, "Yeah. Maybe." He added that this might be the most truthful thing Hogan has ever said about him.

AEW News and Rumors & Updates

Former AEW Champion Saraya, known as Paige in WWE, has opened up about her struggles with her in-ring return. After a successful neck surgery in 2016, she suffered another injury a month into her comeback and was forced to retire from WWE in 2022. Despite initial hesitations, Saraya signed with AEW and became the Women's Champion. In an interview with The Guardian, Saraya confessed her doubts, "Going back was so hard... I did think I’d made a mistake at first." She left AEW in March and rumors are swirling about a possible return to WWE.

AEW's Ricochet, notorious for his mix of arrogance and aggression, has recently shown a softer, self-critical side on social media. The wrestler took to X (formerly Twitter) to admit, "I'm not the best promo in the business," and even hinted at a possible defeat at #AEWDynasty. However, eagle-eyed fans have noted the date of the post was April Fools' Day, raising suspicions that this could be a prank. Ricochet is set to challenge Kenny Omega and Mike Bailey for the AEW International Championship at Dynasty, marking his fourth attempt at the title.
