Plus Becky Lynch’s heel turn and The Rock explaining his WrestleMania no-show, which makes no sense (dig yourself deeper into a hole Rock). Paul Heyman’s stirring controversy, Survivor Series is heading to San Diego, and AEW’s teasing a mixed tag tourney. Plus, Gunther’s Raw meltdown, Sami Zayn had words for the haters, and much more. Mr. Perfect Crowned Intercontinental Champion… Before the Tournament Finished?
35 years ago today, WWF taped the opening rounds—and the final—of the Intercontinental Championship tournament in Austin, Texas, just weeks after The Ultimate Warrior vacated the title following his WrestleMania VI win over Hulk Hogan. Mr. Perfect defeated Tito Santana in the final to win the vacant championship, though fans wouldn’t see that match until it aired on May 19th.
Here’s the twist: WWF didn’t even tape the last quarter-final bout until the next night, April 24th, in San Antonio. That match between Rick Martel and Roddy Piper ended in a double DQ (airing May 13th), which meant both Perfect and Santana had unknowingly received byes to the final—and the whole tournament had technically wrapped before its final quarter-final match had even taken place. Classic WWF tape delay chaos!

NXT aired live from the CW Network with a loaded show featuring fallout from Stand & Deliver, including a Women’s title main event, a surprise return, a title change, and rising tensions between the brand’s biggest names.
Judgment Day def. Gigi Dolin & Tatum Paxley to Retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. Despite a spirited effort from the challengers, Liv Morgan sealed the win with Oblivion on Dolin after a chaotic closing stretch involving stereo enzuigiris, nearfalls, and blind tags.
Noam Dar Returns and Defeats Lexis King to Win the NXT Heritage Cup. After Penn & Teller forced King to admit magic is real, Dar was revealed as his mystery challenger. The Scottish Supernova pinned King with a rolling back elbow to become the new Heritage Cup Champion.

Thea Hail def. Fallon Henley. Despite attempted interference from Jazmyn Nyx and Jacy Jayne, Hail capitalized on a miscommunication and won with the double wristlock.
Ricky Saints vs. Lexis King Set for Next Week. After a heated confrontation, North American Champion Ricky Saints agreed to face King next week in a title vs. Heritage Cup match. Later, King blindsided Saints backstage while Ethan Page watched on.
Oba Femi, Trick Williams, and Joe Hendry Face Off. Femi boasted about his Stand & Deliver win and downplayed both Trick and Je’Von Evans. Trick demanded a rematch, but Joe Hendry interrupted, claiming Trick was entitled and “whiny.” Trick stormed off, and Hendry confronted Femi one-on-one.

Darkstate def. Je’Von Evans & Myles Borne. Osiris Griffin and Dion Lennox continued their momentum with a strong win after isolating Borne and hitting a double spinebuster for the pin.
Sol Ruca & Zaria Confront Judgment Day. In a backstage interview, new North American Champion Ruca and partner Zaria clashed with Liv Morgan, teasing a future confrontation over the tag or NA titles.
Tony D’Angelo Plans for War with Stacks. Tony arranged for Adrianna Rizzo to hide out in a safehouse while he prepares for an inevitable showdown with Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, who betrayed The Family at Stand & Deliver.
Roxanne Perez def. Stephanie Vaquer (c) via Pinfall to Retain the NXT Women’s Championship. In the night’s main event, Vaquer successfully defended her title against Perez after countering Pop Rox and landing SBB. Post-match, Giulia made her entrance for a tense staredown with the champ, while Jordynne Grace watched from the ramp, setting up a three-way collision.

The motive behind Lynch's sudden shift remains a mystery, possibly linked to her husband Seth Rollins' recent controversial alliance with Paul Heyman.
WWE has unveiled plans for Survivor Series 2025, set to go down on November 29 at San Diego's PetCo Park. This marks the first premium live event in San Diego since 2008, and the first time Survivor Series is staged in a stadium. "...we believe Petco Park in San Diego is the perfect host for a historic night," said WWE Chief Content Officer Paul 'Triple H' Levesque. OnLocation will soon offer premium Survivor Series packages. Joe Hendry's surprise appearance at WrestleMania, filling in for an injured Kevin Owens, has sparked TNA's support despite the last-minute decision. Hendry, TNA World Champion, faced off against Randy Orton and was defeated within three minutes. 'It was everything it needed to be,' Hendry retorted, emphasizing his role in attracting attention to TNA. Despite being under contract with TNA, Hendry continues to pique WWE's interest, with his contract expiring in less than a year.
In an unexpected twist, Rusev stormed back into WWE, disrupting The New Day's face-off with Alpha Academy. His return follows a brief stint with AEW, coming after the release of several stars from the promotion. 'Rusev’s return to WWE comes a few short months after he was released from AEW,' reports TJR Wrestling. He revealed on The Pat McAfee Show that his exit from the WWE championship narrative post Elimination Chamber was a strategic call. Johnson said, 'I did feel — and I made the call, ‘I don’t want to be involved in that. Let The Final Boss step back into the shadows'. The Rock emphasized that his decision allowed the spotlight to shift to John Cena and Cody Rhodes, and he stands by his call despite any retrospective criticism.

AEW News and Rumors & Updates
AEW is adding more excitement to its upcoming schedule with the announcement of Beach Break on May 14 at NOW Arena. This event will feature a live Dynamite session and a taping for Collision. However, the previously scheduled AEW Collision event for May 17 has been canceled. AEW's calendar continues to fill with four branded Dynamite events and one PPV in a six-week frame. Let's see how AEW makes each event special.
AEW's Kenny Omega recently hinted about the potential for a mixed tag team tournament while on a Twitch stream. He stated, "I keep hearing every now and then, it's tossed around, every now and then in AEW the ramblings of having a mixed tag matches tournament." Omega even expressed his preference for a tag team format over singles and dropped a few names of his favorite wrestlers from Stardom. He also touched on John Cena's WWE Championship win during the stream.
It turns out the rumors of Big Boom AJ's sudden death were a premature obituary. AJ took to social media to debunk the speculation, asking 'Big Boom AJ died?! Who comes up with this stuff?' Not only is Big Boom AJ alive and well, he's also set to make a comeback at AEW All In: Texas on July 12. A few surprise appearances from Big Justice and The Rizzler were also hinted at, adding a touch of intrigue to the upcoming event.
