WWE’s Plane Ride From Hell Lives in Infamy
23 years ago today, WWE’s infamous “Plane Ride From Hell” turned a transatlantic flight into a flying disaster, with booze-fueled brawls, sexual misconduct, and locker room politics erupting at 30,000 feet. Curt Hennig was fired after goading Brock Lesnar into a mid-air wrestling match, which saw Lesnar slam him to the ground before crew and talent had to separate them. Scott Hall, reportedly passed out drunk, was also released days later after being in no condition to perform during the tour.
Dustin Runnels grabbed a plane mic to drunkenly serenade ex-wife Terri Runnels until Jim Ross told him to shut it down. Michael Hayes allegedly sucker-punched Bradshaw, passed out, and later woke up to find his signature mullet cut off — courtesy of Sean Waltman and a pair of scissors. Flight attendants later accused Ric Flair of flashing them mid-flight, leading to lawsuits years later that brought new scrutiny to the entire ordeal.
JR summed it up in his Ross Report: “a handful of people consumed too much alcohol and consequently acted like children whose parents were away and left the liquor cabinet unlocked.” WWE implemented stricter travel policies afterward, but the damage was done — and the stories have only grown more infamous with time.
This wasn’t just turbulence — this was wrestling's most chaotic flight, and it left bodies and reputations in its wake.

Wrestling fans, it's been an intense year in WWE as 28 talents have walked away from the ring. This roller coaster began with the February cuts, where 11 talents took their leave. Another wave hit in May, seeing an exodus of 16 more. No reason was given beyond budget cuts.
