Raw Preview 🔮, Cena’s Final Match Revealed 🌆, RIP Sabu 💔

Monday, May 12th, 2025

Good morning. Today we look back at the 1997 Raw that famously cut to black before Shawn Michaels could deliver a superkick to Bret Hart — and featured Rob Van Dam’s debut against a very young Jeff Hardy. Also inside: Cena’s final match location revealed, Mina Shirakawa’s AEW future takes shape, and Reddit reacts to wild tributes for Sabu, an insane Ninja Mack spot, and much more. Let’s dig in!

🗓️ On This Day in WWE - 1997

Raw Cuts Off Bret Hart Before Shawn’s Superkick

28 years ago today, a live edition of WWF Raw from Delaware ended in chaos when Bret Hart missed his production cue during a heated in-ring promo with Shawn Michaels. Hart, still recovering from injury and seated in a wheelchair, launched into a scathing tirade that ran past the USA Network’s cut-off. As a result, the show faded to black just before Michaels was supposed to superkick Hart — a moment that aired one week later instead. This promo was originally meant to build toward a King of the Ring match between the two, but Hart’s injury and a real-life backstage fight in June ultimately derailed those plans.

Elsewhere on the same show, Rob Van Dam made his Raw debut as an ECW guest of Jerry Lawler, defeating a young Jeff Hardy in a brief showcase.

It’s crazy to think one of the most replayed Raw moments from that era technically didn’t air live. The video starts right before the feed cuts out.
