SmackDown Go-Home Episode 🐍, AEW Ticket Sales 🇲🇽, Dom's MiTB Plans 💼

Saturday, May 10th, 2025
Good morning. Today we have a look back to the first Saturday Night’s Main Event ever — from a hometown arena for me, Nassau Coliseum! We’ve got results from SmackDown last night and a preview for Backlash tonight. Plus, Dominik Mysterio wants to cash in for the tag titles (dope or dumb?), WWE execs get hyped about their AAA partnership, AEW’s Willow Nightingale nears a contract decision, and Reddit reacts to Iyo Sky’s breakout year, Ricochet’s training room antics, and much more. Let’s dig in!
🗓️ On This Day in WWE - 1985
Hulkamania Headlines the First-Ever Saturday Night’s Main Event

40 years ago today, WWE taped the inaugural episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. Hulk Hogan defended the WWF Championship against Bob Orton in the night’s marquee match, winning by disqualification. The show also featured Wendi Richter (with Cyndi Lauper) defeating The Fabulous Moolah, The U.S. Express and Ricky Steamboat toppling Volkoff, Iron Sheik, and George Steele in six-man action, and Junkyard Dog picking up a win over Pete Doherty with his mother Bertha Ritter in his corner.
Hard to overstate how big this was—network TV wrestling in primetime, led by Hogan, Cyndi Lauper, and the MTV-era boom.

WWE SmackDown Go-Home Backlash
Results (May 9th, 2025)
Full Match Results & Highlights
WWE SmackDown aired live from the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio, just one night before Backlash. The show featured a chaotic tag team main event, Nia Jax earning a title shot, and John Cena delivering a searing promo that ended with Randy Orton striking from the shadows.
Damian Priest & LA Knight def. Jacob Fatu & Solo Sikoa. The uneasy alliance between Knight and Priest held together long enough for Knight to score the pin on Sikoa with BFT. Tensions exploded post-match when the two began brawling, only for Fatu to lay them both out—until Drew McIntyre showed up with a surprise Claymore and stood tall holding the U.S. title.
Drew McIntyre cut a backstage promo. McIntyre dismissed LA Knight and Damian Priest’s claims to the title, saying he's the rightful number one contender and calling himself the brick wall to Jacob Fatu’s reckless momentum.
Alexa Bliss & Zelina Vega def. Chelsea Green & Piper Niven. Vega survived an early beating before tagging in Bliss, who cleaned house. After a failed Twisted Bliss, Vega took out Niven at ringside and Bliss hit Sister Abigail on Green for the win.

Charlotte Flair was booed off the mic. Attempting to speak about her WrestleMania moment and path back to the title, Flair lost the crowd and stormed off. Backstage, she was confronted by Nick Aldis and Alexa Bliss, who suggested they talk.
Nia Jax def. Jade Cargill to become #1 contender. Jax kicked out of Cargill’s frog splash and survived a late flurry. After Naomi attacked Tiffany Stratton at ringside and distracted Cargill, Jax capitalized with a senton and Banzai Drop for the pin.
Fraxiom def. The Street Profits. In a non-title match set up by Nick Aldis, Axiom and Nathan Frazer pulled off the upset after a Phoenix Splash and teamwork neutralized the champs. They’re now likely in line for a future title shot.
Aleister Black def. Carmelo Hayes. Despite interference from The Miz, Black caught Hayes in a small package for the win. Miz tried to attack after the bell but ate a Black Mass for his trouble.

Jacob Fatu rejected Solo Sikoa’s call for a plan. Sikoa suggested strategy, but Fatu insisted on pure aggression heading into Backlash, leaving his Bloodline ally frustrated.
DIY attacked Fraxiom and Motor City Machine Guns. After Fraxiom’s win, both teams were blindsided by DIY, who claimed the newcomers only picked the bones left after last week’s ladder match.
Andrade El Idolo & Rey Fenix def. Los Garza. In a fast-paced tag match, interference from Santos Escobar backfired and Andrade hit The Message on Carrillo for the win. Post-match, Carrillo shoved Escobar away and walked out.
John Cena delivered a scathing final message to Randy Orton. Cena tore down Orton’s legacy, calling him lazy, entitled, and the antithesis of hustle, loyalty, and respect. As Cena stood tall, a masked man attacked—only to be stopped by Cena. But the real Orton was behind him all along, delivering an RKO from outta nowhere and posing with the WWE title to close the show.
