Kurt Angle Makes His WWF Television Debut in Controversial Fashion

26 years ago today, Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle made his WWF television debut on Sunday Night Heat in a segment alongside Tiger Ali Singh. Angle, who was in the crowd as a spectator, was called into the ring by Singh and offered $5,000 to blow his nose on the American flag.

However, when Singh turned his back, Angle instead blew his nose on the Indian flag, igniting immediate controversy. WWE has since apologized for the segment. The moment quickly escalated when Singh attempted to attack Angle, only to be taken down with a suplex—followed by another for good measure.

This marked the first televised glimpse of Angle’s technical prowess and intensity, foreshadowing his future dominance in WWE.
