Seth Rollins Pulls Off the Heist of the Century at WrestleMania 31

Can’t even imagine what Seth Rollins was feeling in this moment!

10 years ago today, WrestleMania 31 took place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, in front of 76,976 fans. In one of the most iconic moments in WrestleMania history, Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract mid-match during the main event between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, turning the bout into a triple threat. Rollins would ultimately pin Reigns after a Curb Stomp to become WWE Champion for the first time, in what was instantly dubbed “The Heist of the Century.”

The rest of the show featured Daniel Bryan winning a 7-man ladder match to capture his first Intercontinental Title, and Sting’s WWE in-ring debut in a nostalgia-fueled showdown with Triple H, complete with DX vs. NWO interference. John Cena ended Rusev’s undefeated streak and took the U.S. Title, while The Undertaker returned to defeat Bray Wyatt. The show also included The Rock and Ronda Rousey facing off with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in a memorable in-ring segment.

WWE Smackdown Results - March 28th, 2025

WWE SmackDown aired from The O2 Arena in London, England, featuring Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Drew McIntyre kicking things off with a tense three-way promo. Orton praised Rhodes' journey and foreshadowed a future title challenge, while McIntyre interrupted to mock them both and threatened to break Orton's back. Drew attempted a sneak attack but bailed after Randy went for an RKO.

Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton share mutual respect, but Drew McIntyre interrupts. Cody addressed the London crowd to reflect on his path to WrestleMania and his upcoming match with John Cena. Orton praised Cody’s growth and declared his intent to one day challenge him for the title. Drew McIntyre crashed the segment, mocking them as “nepo babies” and insisting it should have been him facing Cody. A brawl nearly broke out, but McIntyre dodged both an RKO and a strike from Cody before escaping.

Street Profits def. Pretty Deadly – WWE Tag Team Championship. Kit Wilson and Elton Prince challenged the champs in a high-energy, competitive tag bout. Pretty Deadly nearly stole the win with a crucifix counter, but Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins rallied to hit the Blockbuster Doomsday Device on Wilson to retain.

Secret Hervice def. Katana Chance & Kayden Carter. The match saw interference from Chelsea Green and a few miscommunications, but Piper Niven recovered to hit the Piper Driver on Kayden for the win. Afterward, Zelina Vega ran in to even the odds, landing a satellite DDT before getting laid out by a Niven senton.

LA Knight def. Braun Strowman via DQ – United States Championship. The champ went toe-to-toe with Strowman’s power, surviving big boots and suplexes. The match was thrown out after Jacob Fatu attacked both men, hitting multiple Samoan drops and a moonsault to make a statement. Fatu declared he would bring the U.S. title to the family—with or without Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga.

Jim Uso def. The Miz. In a hard-fought match, Miz pushed Jim to the limit with his DDT and Busaiku Knee, but Big Jim survived and ended things with a superkick and diving splash. After the bell, he grabbed a headset and promised to bust GUNTHER down to “Private” on Raw.

Charlotte Flair def. Mia Yim. Despite being ambushed by Naomi pre-match, Mia insisted on competing. She gave a strong showing and landed Sole Food, but Flair caught her in the ropes, targeted her knee, and won with the Figure Eight. Tiffany Stratton later cut a promo stating that if Charlotte loses at WrestleMania, it’ll be to someone she called a “delusional backflipping little girl.”

Drew McIntyre def. Randy Orton. With Kevin Owens appearing mid-match, the distraction allowed McIntyre to capitalize and hit the Claymore for the win. Afterward, KO tried to hit a piledriver on the announce desk, but Orton escaped and nearly punted him. Owens retreated into the crowd.

Naomi attacks B-Fab and Mia Yim, Jade Cargill makes the save. Naomi assaulted both women backstage, taking out B-Fab with a barricade toss and attacking Mia in the ring. Jade ran in to stop the carnage and Naomi backed off with a smirk.

Damian Priest ambushes Drew McIntyre backstage. After McIntyre mocked Priest in a backstage interview, he opened a door to find Priest waiting. The World Heavyweight Champion battered Drew, culminating in a brutal South of Heaven chokeslam through a car windshield.

CM Punk, Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins sign WrestleMania contract. In the final segment, Reigns soaked in the crowd’s chants before signing the contract. Rollins reminded everyone of their shared history and signed as well. Punk teased hesitation, then thanked the fans and mockingly thanked Reigns before signing. Rollins was visibly furious as the show ended.

WWE News, Rumors & Updates

The main event for WrestleMania 41 has been confirmed during WWE's SmackDown in London. The event saw Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk square off in a contract signing for their upcoming triple threat match. Reigns and his 'Wise Man,' Paul Heyman, revealed that the triple threat is set to be the main feature of WrestleMania 41, a revelation that brought tears to Punk. Meanwhile, John Cena and Cody Rhodes will lead the main event on the following night for the WWE Championship. Amid the drama, Rollins expressed fury over Punk's ascent to the WrestleMania main event, a feat he has yet to accomplish.

A shake-up in the wrestling world was confirmed on WWE's SmackDown show in London as former AEW star Rey Fenix was announced to be making his debut on the blue brand next week. Fenix will be using his long-known ring name, contrary to rumors of a potential name change akin to his brother Pentagon Jr., now simply 'Penta' in WWE. The announcement comes following 'months of speculation' around Fenix's future, after AEW President Tony Khan eventually released him from his contract in May, following a period of injury.

WWE is set to honor the iconic Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin match from WrestleMania 13 in 1997 as the first-ever 'Immortal Moment' in its Hall of Fame. This match is significantly known for the double-turn of the babyface Hart and heel Austin, with Hart's refusal to release a sharpshooter on a bloodied Austin post-match. Austin famously went on to spearhead the years known as the 'Attitude Era' and become one of wrestling's biggest stars. Both Austin and Hart, who have previously been inducted for individual achievements, will attend the 2025 ceremony to receive this special recognition.

WWE NXT's Stand and Deliver Premium Live Event will commence at an earlier time than initially planned on April 19 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wrestling commentator Dave Meltzer confirmed that the event will kick off at 10AM PT, a shift from the original 1PM PT start to accommodate fans wanting to attend both this event and WrestleMania 41 on the same day. Although the match-ups for the event are yet to be officially announced, fans are advised to stay tuned to The CW every Tuesday for updates in the coming weeks.

Drew McIntyre experienced a gritty reality in the WWE SmackDown when Damian Priest sent him crashing onto a car windshield. According to McIntyre, 'That was real glass…It got in my eye.' The incident triggered speculation about a possible CM Punk-Jack Perry reference. Meanwhile, CM Punk remained nonchalant, seemingly unfazed by the incident as he passed a fallen McIntyre. The real-life drama of WWE continues to unfold, bringing unexpected twists and turns for its fervent fan base.

AEW News and Rumors & Updates

In a retrospective look at the impact of Bryan Danielson defeating Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship at AEW All In 2024, Wrestling Inc. speculates how different the wrestling landscape could have been if Strickland had retained his title. Strickland's reign lasted 126 days before being dethroned by Danielson, despite Danielson's imminent retirement due to a neck injury. The defeat set off a series of events, including a perceived dip in AEW's creative quality. 'In the end, the only thing truly valuable that would have been lost if Bryan Danielson had put over Swerve Strickland is the moment, in the minds and hearts of Bryan Danielson fans, that Bryan Danielson defeated Swerve Strickland.'

AEW Collision is set to shift its usual slot to Thursday, April 17, adding an extra layer of excitement to WrestleMania week. Instead of the traditional Saturday slot, the event will air live at 8 p.m. ET from the MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, MA, under the title AEW Collision Spring Breakthru. BOSTON! All Elite Wrestling returns with epic back to back nights of professional wrestling as AEW Dynamite AND AEW Collision invade the MGM Music Hall Fenway, April 16th AND 17th! WrestleMania 41 continues as planned on Saturday, April 19.

Following her departure from All Elite Wrestling (AEW), former star Saraya, formerly known as Paige in WWE, isn't dismissing a potential WWE return. "I love WWE and if there was something that they needed from me which was exciting, I would definitely go there. Absolutely, that would be silly not to," she expressed on the 'Hall of Fame' podcast. Prior to her AEW stint, Saraya was a two-time Divas Champion in WWE, before a neck injury forced her into retirement. Besides wrestling, Saraya keeps busy with various projects, such as her new memoir 'Hell in Boots,' a podcast, and an undisclosed acting role.

AEW is poised to break a significant record next month, with the airing of the 289th episode of 'AEW Dynamite Spring BreakThru', surpassing WCW Nitro's 288-episode run on Turner Sports. This milestone, according to the 'Wrestling Observer Newsletter', could be a potent response to former WCW President Eric Bischoff's continued criticism of AEW's booking. The episode will take place at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway, with a follow-up event, 'AEW Collision,' scheduled for the following day. Despite the milestone, 'the real accomplishment,' as noted by Dave Meltzer, was AEW's swift media rights deal with Warner Brothers Discovery last year.
