Today, we have a look back on Kevin Nash’s genius booking decisions, WWE SmackDown results for March 7, 2025, including the reveal of who attacked Jade Cargill, an AEW Collision Go-Home preview, Lex Luger’s WWE Hall of Fame induction and much more! 🗓️ On This Day - 1999

WCW Nitro’s Infamous Wrestling-Free First Hour

26 years ago today, WCW Monday Nitro took place in Worcester, Massachusetts, featuring one of the strangest formatting decisions in wrestling history. With Kevin Nash as head booker, the first hour of the show contained zero wrestling matches—instead, fans were treated to a Ric Flair and Arn Anderson promo, Kevin Nash talking to Hulk Hogan, a Konnan rap video, and a Lex Luger highlight reel.

The second hour finally delivered some in-ring action, but the night’s main event ended in a No Contest Draw as Ric Flair and Goldberg’s match reached an inconclusive finish. Nash’s booking tenure also included the highly controversial decision to unmask Rey Mysterio Jr. (something we covered a few weeks ago), a move that drew backlash from fans and Mysterio himself.

Nash later reflected on the frustrations of being WCW’s head booker, addressing the difficulty of managing talent on his Kliq This podcast in 2022: “That was the biggest problem we had because everybody wanted to book their own s**t.” Within three months, Nash stepped down, but his time in charge remains a cautionary tale of WCW’s creative struggles in its final years.

WWE Smackdown Results - March 7th, 2025

WWE SmackDown aired live from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on USA Network, featuring the fallout from Elimination Chamber, two championship matches, and Cody Rhodes addressing John Cena’s shocking heel turn.

Drew McIntyre Attacks Damian Priest Before the Show. As talent arrived at the arena, Drew McIntyre blindsided Damian Priest and left him laid out, continuing their heated rivalry.

Randy Orton Calls Out Kevin Owens. Orton opened the show by addressing John Cena’s betrayal, mocking his allegiance to The Rock. He then turned his attention to Kevin Owens, calling him jealous of Sami Zayn’s success and blaming him for trying to end Zayn’s career. Orton said he felt something he hadn’t in years at Elimination Chamber—an urge to punt Owens' head off. He vowed to prove he’s the best punter in WWE history.

Tiffany Stratton defeated Piper Niven. Stratton overcame Niven in a hard-fought match, sealing the win with Prettiest Moonsault Ever. After the match, Charlotte Flair ambushed Stratton, chop-blocking her and locking in the Figure Eight.

Pretty Deadly Become #1 Contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championships. Pretty Deadly, Los Garza, and Motor City Machine Guns battled for a shot at the WWE Tag Team Championships. Chris Sabin looked to have the match won, but Elton Prince stole the pin with a backslide, securing the victory for Pretty Deadly.

Bianca Belair Confronts Naomi About Jade Cargill's Attack. Bianca demanded answers from Naomi regarding Jade Cargill’s Elimination Chamber attack. Naomi initially deflected but ultimately admitted she took out Cargill because she felt overshadowed. As Naomi pleaded for Bianca’s understanding, Jade Cargill made a dramatic return, brutally attacking Naomi and laying her out with Jaded.

Braun Strowman vs. Solo Sikoa Ends in Chaos. Strowman and Sikoa’s match ended in disqualification when Tama Tonga interfered. Afterward, Jacob Fatu confronted Strowman, leading to an all-out brawl. Strowman chokeslammed Fatu through a table, but Fatu got back to his feet.

Chelsea Green Retains the WWE Women’s United States Championship. In a Street Fight, Green survived a brutal battle against Michin thanks to interference from Alba Fyre, who assisted Green by hitting Michin with a flip piledriver onto chairs. Green capitalized to retain her title.

Cody Rhodes Addresses John Cena’s Betrayal. A battered Cody Rhodes spoke about Cena’s shocking turn, saying his former hero had given up on everything he once stood for. He recalled Cena’s words about the WWE Championship getting “heavier every day” and declared that, for him, the title isn’t heavy enough. Rhodes then challenged Cena to “come get some.”

Drew McIntyre defeated “Big” Jim Uso. McIntyre made quick work of Uso with a Claymore, but after the match, Damian Priest attacked McIntyre, vowing revenge.

LA Knight Wins the WWE United States Championship. LA Knight defeated Shinsuke Nakamura in a hard-fought main event to capture the United States Championship. Nakamura attempted to use mist, but Knight avoided it and hit BFT onto a chair for the win.

⭐️ Lex Luger Named to WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2025. WWE announced that wrestling legend Lex Luger will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2025, joining Triple H and Michelle McCool.

📝 The Rock's Initial Plan Involved Cody Rhodes Turning Heel; Rhodes Refused. Reports indicate that The Rock wanted to align with Cody Rhodes turning heel for the WrestleMania build. However, some within WWE believed that a Rhodes heel turn could negatively impact the company, considering Rhodes' current popularity. Dave Meltzer noted, "There are those in the company who believed the only thing that could have hurt the company would have been a Rhodes heel turn at this time." ​

🎮 WWE 2K25 Locker Code Unlocks The Rock's Action Figure Character. Players can now unlock an Elite The Rock Persona Card in WWE 2K25 using the locker code "ELITEROCK2K25," available until March 16.

🤝 MXM Collection Expands Alliance at AEW Revolution. The MXM Collection, led by (Future 2026 Royal Rumble Winner*) Johnny TV, surprised fans at AEW Revolution by expanding their alliance, hinting at new strategies and matchups in upcoming events.​

* How great is Johnny TV here… half kidding, half holding onto the dream I had in 2010 where he was finally going to get a push and win the Royal Rumble. The dream lives every year, hence the Future 2026 Rumble winner!

🔄 Young Bucks AEW Return Update. The Young Bucks were recently backstage at an AEW event in Oceanside, CA, and plans for their return are in progress. Dave Meltzer reported, "While they haven’t returned yet... there are plans being worked on for a return although we don’t know when."
